In order to celebrate the club’s 25th anniversary, the Zingirako Euskaldunak Basque Club in Chascomus has planned a full weekend.  The invitation is for September 11th and 12th, and is not only for the local Basque community, but also to anyone wishing to join in the festivities. The program will begin on Saturday afternoon with mass and dancing by the hosts and invited groups, and will conclude on Sunday with a big lunch. 

Chascomus, Argentina.   Since the beginning of the year, the Zingirako Euskaldunak have been developing a series of events whose goal is to celebrate the second founding of the club; that moment, 25 years ago, where the institution became active again.  That is why, they participated not only in special dates on the calendar for the community, like Aberri Eguna in Cañuelas, the commemoration of the Bombing of Gernika or San Fermin, but also have been working hard to hold events like food sales, as well as mus and pilota tournaments.

Also as part of the anniversary, the Zingirako Euskaldunak have brought an exhibit to the city entitled, “Euskera in Argentina.  Following the Steps of Basque,” that was displayed August 20-27 at the Brazzola Theater.  The inauguration of the exhibit was done by Daniel Oiarbide, Basque lecturer at the University of La Palta, who gave a talk on the current situation of the language in the country.

Main Event

Even if the events have been taking place since the beginning of the year, the main days will be on the weekend of September 10-11,with a program that not only the local community is invited to, but also anyone wishing to join in.  The program is the following:

Saturday, September 10:

Reception for delegations and voucher retrieval.

-19:00hs., Dancing in the Independence Plaza by the hosting dance group, Eusko Hazia, and invited guests
-19:30hs., Kalejira through downtown
-21:00hs., Dance at the Club Bochístico Independiente, located on Garay 70

Sunday, September 11

-13:00hs. Lunch at the Club Bochístico Independiente

Organiziers invite all Basque clubs to RSVP as soon as possible indicating the number of participates and at which activities, along with their arrival time in Chascomus.  Information should be emailed to cvchascomus@yahoo.com.ar.  They have also let us know that lodging will be at the Camping “La Puerta” (Av. Costnaera Urruti 848), in rooms for 4-6 people.  Each person should supply their own bedding.
