The aim of the Aberri Eguna festivities at the Denak Bat Basque club in Cañuelas is to gather the dantzaris in the area. This year’s event is celebrating its 10th edition and the organizers want to celebrate it properly: with joy, a lot of music and novelties. There will be dance performances, a concert by Maral and a Giant Paella Show. 

Cañuelas, Argentina.   Even if the event has become one of the club’s largest, and is worked on all year long, it is during February and March when club members and friends fully dive into preparations.

So, last week a delegation formed by Daniel Sancholuz, club president; Veronica Zulaika, secretary; and directors Ismael Goñi and Catalina Etchevers were received by the local mayor, Gustavo Arrieta who expressed his willingness to collaborate with the organization.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Cañuelas Denak Bat expressly wishes to have a large community presence and so has been working hard on publicity, a task that they would appreciate help from the local media.  The mayor, also committed, in the name of the community, “to accompany this institutional activity of the Basque community with the municipal infrastructure as it is one of the more relevant communities in the city of Cañuelas.”

The Aberri Eguna Dantzari get-together will take place this year on April 2 and 3.  The dance performances will take place on Saturday afternoon, on the stage that will be set up in the city’s main plaza.  The Basque-Argentine group, Maral, will also perform there.  After the show, the dance will continue but at the facilities of the Sociedad Rural where there will also be music and dancing following the tradition of previous years.

The farewell lunch will be a “Giant Paella Show,” that will gather attendees in the Rural Hall.

Voucher prices

This year’s voucher for dantzaris and chaperones will cost $450.  This includes lodging, and Saturday’s dance, breakfast and dinner on Sunday.  Anyone wishing to attend lunch on Saturday, need to pay an additional $50.  For more information, email: vzulaica@hotmail.com or vetcanuelas@yahoo.com.ar.
