The festivities for the 101st anniversary of Pedro Luro lasted for three days and included an official act, a parade of institutions, shows and the festival of collectivities with Basques who were present with their food stand.  The city of Pedro Luro, owes its name to the Lower Navarran inmigrant of that name or to his son, also Pedro Luro; the inmigrant Luro from Donaixti-Ibarre in Baxenabarre, married Juana Pradere also a Basque, from Sara.  Parents and kids, the whole Luro family were very active in the progress of Mar del Plata and the then big territory of La Pampa.

Pedro Luro, Argentina.   Located in the extreme south of the Province of Buenos Aires, on the coast of the Colorado River, approximately 800 kilometers from the capital, Pedro Luro celebrated its 101st anniversary on November 20th.   With the goal being to celebrate this significant date, the entire community participated in the recreational activities organized by the local municipality that ran from Thursday the 20th to Saturday the 22nd (check here the story of Pedro Luro father and Pedro Luro son).

Even if they are not formally organized, the Basque descendants in the city were part of the event and did so specifically at the Meeting of Collectivities that took place on Saturday in the Railway Yard.  There, along with representatives of other countries and cultures, the Basques had a gastronomic stand where typical pintxos of ham and chorizo with cider could be enjoyed among other dishes.  As part of the goal to promote Basque culture in the community, the Basque txoko also displayed artifacts like coats of arms, txapelas and ikurriñas.

As Mariano Dupuy told EuskalKultura.com, “We are 20 some people that participated at the food stand at the Festival of Collectivities; even if we are not officially organized, we usually get together to each something and talk, and every year we organize the stand for the festival.”
