The illustrator Elena Odriozola (Donostia-San Sebastian, 1967) will receive today a Golden Apple Award at the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava (Slovakia) for the work she created for Mary Shelley´s 'Frankenstein' (Nordika Books, 2013). The nomination for the award was presented by Galtzagorri Elkartea, through the OEPLI.

Bratislava, Slovakia. The Etxepare Basque Institute informed us that illustrator Elena Odriozola will receive a Golden Apple Award this afternoon at the Biennial of Illustrations in Bratislava for the work she created for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (Nordika Books, 2013). The nomination for the award was presented by Galtzagorri Elkartea, through the OEPLI.

The Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava rewards the best international works and its awards are among the most coveted by professional illustrators. Odriozola will become the second Basque illustrator recognized with a Golden Apple, after Asun Balzola, who was awarded one in 1985 for her creations for the book written by Bernardo Atxaga Txitoen istorioa (Erein, 1984).

The award ceremony will take place at the Slovak National Theatre at 17:00 pm, and the artist from Donostia-San Sebastián will be present therein, with the support of the Etxepare Basque Institute. Elena Odriozola has also been  awarded the Spanish National Illustration Prize this year for the "capacity for renewal" and the "narrative potential” of her work.

Zorionak, Elena! Congratulations!
