Amerzketa, Gipuzkoa.   Next week, the Basque illustrator, Maite Gurrutxaga, will travel to Italy where she will introduce her work at an event in Rome.  “I was invited by the ACE, Associazione Culturale Euskara, and I think it is a wonderful opportunity,” she told EuskalKultura.com.

The event is on May 24, Tuesday at the Giuffa Book Store, the usual venue for activities organized by the Basque Club in Rome.  There, Gurrutxaga will present her comic Habiak that will also be on sale at the bookstore.  Gurrutxaga will also present Alderik alde that will be published soon in Italian by the digital publishers Libe Edizioni, created by the Basque club to introduce Basque works to an Italian audience.

At the presentation, Gurrutxaga will also be joined by Italian illustrator Cecilia Campironi, who will also share her thoughts on the work and world of comics and illustration.

Habiak was originally published in Basque by Txalaparta and according to Gurrutxaga is based on the script for the play Gizona ez da txoria, by Dejabu Panpin Laborategia.  On the other hand, the book Alderik alde, is a work created from a book of sketches that she did in 2001 and 2012.  The book was published by Edo! in 2012.
