New York, NY, USA. The Delegation of Euskadi in the United States has announced that it seeks to fill the position of the Business Manager at the Delegation.  This is a permanent job, based in New York, with all the rights and obligations established by local labor regulations.  A university graduate degree is required, experience of at least two years in a similar position, and a command of English and Spanish.

The committee is comprised by Unai Telleria (Delegate of Euskadi in the US), Myriam Larroulet (Director of Foreign Relations in Vitoria-Gasteiz), Jurdana Izagirre (Director of the Basque Trade and Investment Agency in the US), and Felipe Victoria (Institutional Director of the Delegation of Euskadi in the US).

The process selection.  One it has been determined that applicants meet the requirements, there will then be two phases, the opposition phase, and the merits phase.  In the first, there will be a compulsory and eliminatory knowledge test, directly related to the functions of the position (30 points, a minimum of 15 required). Only the first 10 scores will pass.  This will be followed by an interview for the evaluation of the competencies and skills, in which a practical case will be presented to be solved orally (30 points, a minimum of 20 required).

In relation to other merits (up to 40 points)s, the following will be considered:

  • Additional qualifications, master, teaching or research activity related to the functions of the position, with a maximum of 10 points
  • Additional experience in functions related to the position, in addition to the minimum of 2 years required, with a maximum of 15 points
  • Knowledge of Euskera: up to a maximum of 10 points
  • Knowledge of other languages: up to a maximum of 5 points 

Once the process is completed and the provisional list has been drawn up, the committee will proceed to publish it by means of a Resolution by the delegate of Euskadi in the United States, granting a period of 10 calendar days for the presentation of claims.  The Resolution will state the score obtained by the applicants in each of the phases of the selection process, identifying each applicant by a previously assigned number.  

The functions and obligations are set out in detail below, but in general, it is understood that the eligible candidate would maintain updated knowledge of the political, economic and administrative reality of the Basque Country and the United States. That he/she would promote relations between both countries, identify situations and opportunities, develop proposals, develop plans, conferences, meetings, contacts, visits…, facilitate and channel information, actively promote cooperation, mutual knowledge and interaction between the Basque Country and the US.

The annual salary is $70,000 net for all concepts.  Insurance and 21 days of annual vacation.  The length of the contract is an “At will offer letter,” meaning that if the need for these services disappears in this country; the contractual relationship will then be dissolved as well.
