In the words of its president, “we are very satisfied with this year,” he said on behalf of the Guillermo Larregui Basque club in Chacabuco in the Argentinean province of Buenos Aires. “The work and effort done since March until now has given much fruit and at the last event of the year, the community responded very well, filling the clubhouse hall.” According to Pablo Pavesa, “this gives us a lot of encouragement for the coming year; in 2014 the club will celebrate its quarter century and we are already thinking about, and planning at least two festivals to welcome all our friends,” he told EuskalKultura.com.

Chacabuco, Argentina.  The Guillermo Larregui Basque Club of Chacabuco is experiencing a very fruitful time. “Among our achievements this year, we should mention the club’s participating in Semana Vasca, after not doing so officially for nine years.  This year our dancers returned to be part of the Evening events,” told Pablo Pavesa.

In hopes of gathering members and friends, there were four get-togethers held, in April, June, September and the last one in December “which was the most successful.”  Pablo Pavesa told us “The last get-together exceeded all our expectations.  We had 200 seats in the room and that wasn’t enough for everyone who came.” “Moreover, people came came aldo from out of town and from the Basque clubs in Los Toldos, Bragado and Chivilcoy. It was very important to us to be united with other clubs in the area.  Regarding the events, even though a variety of dishes were provided, the favorite were the tripe and chorizo in cider, all prepared by the women of the house with recipes that they learned in the Basque cooking workshops sponsored by FEVA,” he explained.

When asked about the coming year, the president predicted a positive evaluation specially regarding the response of the community to host an even better 2014. “Club members are already involved in planning.  Next year we will celebrate our 25th anniversary and we will celebrate it with a large program of activities.  There will be Mus and Pilota championships, of course we will continue with our monthly get-togethers.  In addition, we will publish a magazine.  The Anniversary Dinner is scheduled for June 19th even though we will probably carry out two, in order to accommodate all our members and friends.  We have room for 200 in the clubhouse and according to our calculations we will surpass that number,” the president said.

Finally, regarding the trip to the Basque Country that the club organized this year, the president of the Guillermo Larregui Chacabuco Basque Club let us know, that the next one will possibly take place in 2015.  “The anniversary year will be dedicated to that.  That is why we will repeat this year's wonderful experience and travel to the Basque Country in 2015 in order to dedicate ourselves to the organization of the 2014 events.”
