Phillip Mendisco (Sept. 27, 1968 - May 14, 2026)

05/14/2026 - Dixon, California, USA

Philip Mendisco was born September 27, 1968 to proud Basque immigrant parents Arnaud and Marie Mendisco in San Francisco, CA.

The family moved to Dixon in 1979, where Philip grew up and graduated from Dixon High in 1986.

Philip then began his lifelong career as a painter and helped with his parents' restaurant, which was known as Arnaud's Basque Restaurant located in Winters, CA.

He then met the love of his life Patty Smith, whom he had two boys with, Ryan and Dominic.

They were his pride, joys, and the light of his life.

As a dedicated musician, Philip showed his boys rock and roll, and helped them along with their musical endeavors.

He was also known as a "second" and "cool dad" to many of the youth.

His generosity was plentiful and his door was always open to anyone who needed him.

His musical talents also followed him throughout the love of his culture.

As a member of the San Francisco Basque Culture Center he played the horn with his fellow Klika members with triumph and happiness.

Also an adventurous outdoorsman at heart, his love for nature was another strong part of him. Camping, fishing, and dove hunting were his favorite activities that connected him to the earth and its enthralling call.

He is preceded in death by his father Arnaud Mendisco, and mother-in-law Mary Frances Crowley. He is survived by his two sons Ryan Mendisco and Dominic Mendisco, his mother Marie Mendisco, his wife Patty Smith Mendisco, his older brother Jean Paul Mendisco (Jennifer), and younger sister Janelle Mendisco Kohl (Mike), and nieces and nephews.

Mass will be held on Friday June 12th, 2026 at 10am. The location will be at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Dixon, CA. Interment will follow those services at the Dixon Cemetery. The celebration of Philip's life that day will be concluded at the Dixon Moose Lodge. In lieu of flowers go buy yourself a hunting or fishing license and rock on!
