(1921-2021)

Julian Amuchastegui started his life journey in McDermitt, Nevada.

He was the oldest of 3 brothers. Their first language was Basque, and they learned English when they started to school.

His Basque heritage was precious to him.

After Julian graduated from High School in Mountain Home, Idaho, he went to work for his Uncle in Elko, Nevada, where he learned the art of salesmanship in a general merchandise store. He left Elko to join the Navy during World War II and was assigned to aircraft mechanics.

Julian and I met while he was in the Navy. When the war ended and he was discharged from the Navy, we married (March 24, 1946).

He took a job at Northrop Aircraft in Hawthorne, California, and had decided that wasn't what he wanted to do so when he was offered a salesman's job in Chaney's Department Store in Gardena, California, he accepted.

He soon became manager there and worked through 3 different ownerships of the store.

When he retired from that job, I was still working, and he became bored so he went to work in a "Big and Tall Men's" clothing store.

We raised our family (Paul and Janet) in Hawthorne, California.

In 1990 we moved to Clarkston, WA. We always referred to Clarkston as "home," even though we moved to Cedar City in 2016 and have enjoyed living here near our son and his daughter and family.

One of Julian's most satisfying and joyous activities was his fellowship in Alcoholics Anonymous. Thanks to all of you who have been his AA friends - you were special to him.

We had two children, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild with another on the way.

We have been blessed.
