basque heritage worldwide
06/28/2025 - Los Banos,
Los Banos Basque Club shared a message thru the social media saying with much sadness that they "have lost our beloved Terry Talbott. Terry was a spitfire who was always involved with our Basque Club. She taught dancing many years ago and was in charge of our Mass for the picnic. She was such a go-getter and positive in every aspect of our Basque community! She was loved by all and her passing has left a hole in our hearts. Prayers go out to her beautiful family".
(the obituary below was published in Whitehurst Funerals)
Teresa "Terry" (Iribarren) Talbott, a beloved wife, mother, Amachi, friend, nurse, and dedicated community volunteer, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 27, 2025.
Terry was born in Bakersfield and raised in Wasco, California, where she was deeply rooted in the area's strong Basque community. She attended St. John's Elementary School, Wasco High School and later earned her nursing degree from Mount St. Mary's College, becoming a Registered Nurse. Her Basque heritage remained a source of pride throughout her life. In 1959, she met the love of her life, Raymond Talbott, at the Reno Basque Picnic. They were married on June 19, 1965.
Terry and Ray made their home in Los Banos, where they raised their two daughters, Michelle and Andrée. Terry dedicated her professional life to caring for others, serving as the school nurse for the Gustine Unified School District for 25 years. Known for going above and beyond, she was a comforting presence to countless students and families.
After retiring, she continued volunteering as the school nurse at Our Lady of Fatima School in Los Banos. Her open-door policy, warm demeanor, and deep compassion left a lasting impact--many former students and families have since shared touching stories about the quiet, life-changing kindness they experienced from her.
Terry's generosity extended far beyond her nursing role. A pillar of the Los Banos and Our Lady of Fatima communities, she served on the Parents Club and volunteered as a room mother. At St. Joseph's Catholic Church, she was a catechism teacher, Eucharistic minister, lector, funeral coordinator, and faithfully brought communion to the homebound. She also volunteered for the Los Banos Basque Club and supported their youth dance group for many years.
With two fellow nurse friends, Terry co-founded the Los Banos Hospice program. She was also an active member of the St. Joseph's Guild and helped run Talbott Sheep Company alongside Ray. Raised in a sheep family and deeply connected to the land, Terry always found peace in the sheep corral--a bond that remained strong throughout her life.
Terry's giving spirit extended to countless and quiet acts of kindness, whether it was driving friends to out-of-town doctor appointments or lending a hand--always with a smile--whenever and wherever it was needed.
One of her greatest joys in life was being "Amachi" to her four grandchildren. They will forever treasure summers spent in her backyard, her steady presence at school events and livestock shows, and the many rides to sleepovers and celebrations. She was a constant, loving figure in their lives.
Terry is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Raymond Talbott. She is survived by her sister Dolores Schulte; her daughters, Michelle Artadi (Darrell) DiGiovanni and Andrée Artadi Soares; and her four grandchildren, Mia Artadi DiGiovanni, Gianna Artadi (Marcel) Grangien, Bianca Artadi (Matthew) Shapero, and Tristan Talbott Soares. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family to her.
The family would like to thank the incredible women who helped care for both Ray and Terry in their later years. Their love, friendship, and preservation of dignity was more than anyone could ever hope for someone they love.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1621 Center Ave, Los Banos, CA 93635, followed by the Rosary at 10:00 AM and Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. A graveside service will follow at the Los Banos Cemetery, 16575 Center Avenue, Los Banos, CA 93635.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Our Lady of Fatima School Memorial Fund, 1625 Center Ave, Los Banos, CA 93635 or to the Los Banos Basque Club, P.O. Box 123 Los Banos, CA 93635. Both organizations were near and dear to Terry's heart.
Terry's legacy of kindness, service, and unconditional love will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
