06/26/2016 - Santa Clara, CA, USA

(Gernika, Basque Country, 1927 - Santa Clara, CA, 2016)

Julia Goyenechea Dessuge passed away peacefully in her sleep June 26, 2016 in Santa Clara, CA.

She was a gracious 89 year old who was born in Guernica, Spain and came to live in Marysville from the Basque Country in 1948.

She was one of the survivors of the infamous bombing of her home town of Guernica in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War which made her all that stronger and appreciative of the good life that she lived thereafter.

Among her accomplishments and interests, she was a nonpareil cook of the Basque cuisine and enjoyed sharing the simple pleasures of life with her family and friends. Large family gatherings for dinner were always looked forward to and remembered as memorable events every Easter and Thanksgiving.

Julia is survived by her loving husband Gabriel, her beloved daughter Elizabeth, her sister Dolores Hyatt, and brother Raymond Goyenechea.

She will be missed by a host of relatives and friends. A private celebration will be planned.
