James David Trevino
James David Trevino (25 abril, 1964 - 7 diciembre, 2023) 59 años

12/07/2023 - Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

On December 7, 2023, James David Trevino, known to many as Trevor James, the Minister of Meat or simply “Dad”, passed away peacefully at his home.

He was born April 25, 1964 in Castro Valley, CA to Karen and Allen Trevino. The family moved to Salt Lake City soon after, putting down roots in East Millcreek near the canyon.

James’s first job was delivering newspapers alongside his brothers and the family dog.  He was active in Boy Scouts, earning his Eagle Award.  He graduated from Skyline High School and went on to serve a mission in Bahia Blanca, Argentina for the LDS church. He later attended BYU and graduated with a degree in Recreation Management. His love of the outdoors led him to work as a commercial river guide for nearly 20 years, running rivers in Utah, Idaho, Montana and Ecuador.  He also spent time living and working in Washington, DC and Calabasas, CA.

He settled down in Salt Lake and began working at REI in the Rentals Department.  However, his abiding passion since his teenage years was music.  He played bass guitar with several bands at various venues in SLC and at festivals/gigs in the intermountain region.  He also hosted open mic nights and jam sessions around the valley.  He was generous with fellow musicians, sharing his time and talent with seasoned players and newcomers alike.  This earned him the nickname “Dad”.  He had many friends, loved the family dogs and his two cats, China and Sunflower.  James was a kind, thoughtful, funny, warmhearted soul and will be missed by all who knew him.

James was preceded in death by his mother, Karen Trevino, and his brother, Gary Trevino. He is survived by his father Allen Trevino (Diane); his siblings Bob Trevino, Carmen Trevino, Karalee Trevino (Sean Skamnes), Sarah Pearce (David), Dave Trevino (Laura) and Scott Trevino; and 12 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 15, at Holbrook Mortuary, located at 3251 S 2300 E, Salt Lake City, Utah.  A visitation will be held at 10am followed by the memorial service at 11am. Interment will take place at Elysian Gardens.
