Frank 'Patxiko' Goñi, 77, passed away in Tulare, California

07/03/2022 - Tulare, California, USA

Frank “Patxico” Goni, 77 years old, of Tulare, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022. He was the youngest of three children born to Jose and Felisa Goni in Arizcun, Navarra, Spain.  Upon completion of his studies, he immigrated to the United States in the late 1960s.  Like many Basque men, he worked as a sheepherder traveling through the western United States.  Frank eventually settled in Tipton California in the late 1970s.

In 1980 he married Olivia Lerda at St John’s Catholic Church in Tipton.  In 1981 they welcomed their daughter Joanna and in 1984 their son Joseph.  Frank was a devoted and loving husband and father.  He was also a hard-working, honest, and humble man who enjoyed being a dairy farmer and took great pride in his business.  He never dreamed of retiring and managed his dairy farm alongside his son until his passing just as he wanted.  Frank enjoyed family and friends around the dinner table, telling stories, playing cards, and sharing a good glass of wine.

Frank is survived by his son Joseph Goni (fiancé Daisy), daughter Joanna Moffett (husband Clay), and grandsons Quinn and Mason Moffett, all of Tulare.  He is also survived by his brother Martin Goni and his sister Maria Valer (husband Paco), all of Arizcun, Spain.

Frank is preceded in death by his wife Olivia Lerda-Goni, his parents Jose and Felisa Goni, and his in-laws Joe and Clara Lerda.

Visitation will be on Sunday, July 17, from 4 pm – 7 pm at Peers-Lorentzen Funeral Home.  Recitation of the Rosary and Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, July 18, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 125 East Pleasant Ave., with burial at the Tulare Cemetery (Kern).

Remembrance may be made to St Aloysius Church or a charity of your choice.
