Marie Etcheverry, 88, passed away on Sunday, December 5th, 2021 at her home in Bakersfield, California with her son, Jean-Claude by her side.

Marie was born on September 13, 1933 in Irouleguy, France and came to the United States in September of 1953. She worked at the Noreiga's Hotel and Restaurant and then the Basque Cafe as a cook, before starting a family and raising three children. She later returned to work at the Noreiga's because of a tireless work ethic and unwillingness to just relax. She was always moving. So much so, she made it a daily ritual of always walking at least three times around the park. She had a strong body and even stronger faith in God. She attended Saint Joseph's church since coming to the United States, always sitting in the ninth pew, center-right. As her health declined, she relied on faith and prayer to get her through her final years. She will always be remembered as a loving, gracious and strong mom.

Marie is survived by her brother Desire and sister Marie Leonie; her daughter Yvonne, sons Daniel and Jean-Claude; her six grandchildren Christine, Carla, Guadalupe, Camelia, Maria, and Carlos; and nine great-grandchildren, Chloe, Zoey, Keyra, Lexa, Ellie, Lincoln, Lillie, Joey, and Alice.

She was preceded in her passing, by her brothers Eduard, Pierre, Louis, Gabriel, Jean, and Arnaud; and sister Catherine.

Yvonne and Daniel would like to extend a deep heartfelt thank you to Jean-Claude for lovingly looking after and caring for Ama.

To Jemine with Bakersfield Community Home Health, our gratitude for the kindness and help you gave in her last days.

And to the staff at ADAKC for the care and devotion they showed our mom in her last year, we will always be grateful.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 17th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a quiet hour at 6:00 PM at Basham-Hopson Funeral Care at 620 Oregon St, Bakersfield.

Catholic Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 21st at 10:00 AM at St. Joesph's Church at 1515 Baker St, Bakersfield.
