February 5, 1934 ~ April 20, 2020 (age 86)

Gilberte Marie Azpeitia, 86, peacefully passed away in her beloved home on Monday, April 20th.

Jill was born in St. Jean Pied de Port, France to Dominique and Marie Jeanne Elissagaray. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1939.

She attended Jefferson School, Tracy High School and the Maude Cornwell Secretary School in Stockton.

Her earlier years were spent helping her parents who owned and operated the Linee Grocery Store which was later rebuilt as the Country Market.

In 1955, Jill married the love of her life Michel “Mike” Azpeitia. Together they took over the family business and became proprietors of the Country Market until its sale in 1972.

Continuing their side-by-side partnership, Jill became the secretary for Plain View Water District with Mike as Manager.

Jill retired in 1997 resuming her most important role as grandmother “Amatchi”.

Her life revolved around her grandchildren and watching them flourish in all aspects of life.

Her most treasured moments were spent with family vacationing in Santa Cruz.

Jill will journey to heaven beside her dear son-in-law, Robert “Bob” Hermesky who passed away on April 17th. Once there, she will be greeted by Michel, her beloved husband of 44 years, her mother and father, sister Monique Etcheverry and brother Roger Elissagaray.

She will be dearly missed by her brother Bernard (Jean) Elissagaray of Danville. Her children, Elise Hermesky, Dominique (Patti) Azpeitia and Jeannine (Alan) Anchartechahar; grandchildren, Jeff (Kara) Bastian, Lisette (Sean) Hart, Kevin and Suzanne Azpeitia, and Emily and Marc Anchartechahar; great grandchildren Jake and Kamia Bastian and Rhett Hart along with many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family is most thankful to Dr. Sunil Patel and the caring staff of both New Hope Acute Care and Astoria Senior Living and her bedside angels, Lourdes and Ruth.

Visitation will be at Fry Memorial Chapel in Tracy on Wednesday, April 29th from 12:00-5:00 pm. Interment at Tracy Public Cemetery on April 30th will be private. We look forward to celebrating our beloved mother at a later date with family and friends sharing smiles and hugs in her memory.

Donations in her remembrance may be sent to Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Ave, Stockton, CA 95204 or a charity of one’s choice.
