Eugenie Ocafrain Coscarat bankarra zendu da San Rafael Kalifornian 82 urte zituela. Heriotz-oharra ingelesez:

Eugenie Ocafrain Coscarat, longtime San Rafael resident, passed away on October 30, 2022, at her home in San Rafael, CA in the company of her son John Raymond Coscarat.

Eugenie Ocafrain was born on December 4, 1939, in the small town of Banca in the South of France.

At the age of 18, Eugenie came to the U.S. Eugenie worked at a French laundry in San Francisco.

In 1958 at a Basque picnic, Eugenie met the love of her life, Raymond Coscarat. They were married on May 31, 1959, in San Francisco.

Later Eugenie and Raymond moved from San Francisco to San Rafael. While living in San Rafael Eugenie was a house cleaner and Raymond was a gardener.

On Thanksgiving Day in 1961 Eugenie and Raymond purchased the property located at 405 N. San Pedro Road in San Rafael (Santa Venetia), CA.

In early March of 1962 Eugenie and Raymond opened Le Chalet Basque restaurant.

Eugenie gave birth to their son (John) in October of 1963.

Eugenie and Raymond worked 7 days a week tirelessly to build a wonderful clientele and community at Le Chalet Basque restaurant.

They created a fantastic and wonderful reputation for great food, generous portions and great service until they sold the restaurant in December of 1986.

Following the sale of their restaurant, they moved to Lower Lake, CA and purchased the Westwind mobile home park and they lived there for two years.

In 1988, the Westwind mobile home park was sold, and they moved to their home in Willits, CA.

In 1989, Eugenie and Raymond spent the next 5 years in France and to then return to San Rafael, CA in 1994.

Upon returning to San Rafael, CA they purchased a home and they continued to live their life together until Raymond’s passing in August of 2008.

Eugenie and Raymond were best friends, enjoyed each other’s company and his passing left an immense feeling of loss and sorrow. After Raymond’s passing, Eugenie and John continued to run the family business.

In November of 2019, Eugenie was diagnosed with dementia. Her health began to change in early 2022. In May/June of 2022 her health began to further decline and then in August 2022 she suffered a mini stroke. There were subsequent health issues that occurred resulting in her passing on October 30, 2022.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Isabella’s Church – One Trinity Way, San Rafael, CA on Saturday/ January 14, 2023, at 11:00 am followed by a lunch.
