Etiennette Lapeyrade passed away on 12/11/18 with her children and medical team at her side after a valiant battle with post-surgery complications.

Born Etiennette Sabarots in Louhossoa, France on 8/31/1934. After growing up in the Basque Country and acquiring her love for city life as a young adult in Paris, Etiennette immigrated to San Francisco in 1961. 10 days after her arrival, she married Auguste, her late husband of 51 years.

Etiennette is survived by her daughter Marie-Nicole (and partner Donald Holmes), her son Pierre (and wife Shannon (Cook) Lapeyrade), and her 5 grandchildren: Chantal, Shaelyn, Teagan, Angeline and Nicolas. Her son Jean-Michel preceded her in death in 2017. She is also survived by a large family both in the Basque Country and in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Etiennette was an early member of the Basque Club of San Francisco and a founding member of the Basque Cultural Center in South San Francisco.

She was a devoted daycare provider to children of close friends and neighbors, loved to travel, and was particularly fond of the outdoors and of all plants and animals great and small.

Mom's quiet, unassuming strength and generosity were an inspiration to all of us, as was the grace she showed in her final weeks while battling Myasthenia Gravis complications following her recent heart surgery.

Friends may visit Saturday, December 15th from 11:00am to 2:00pm at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City, where a Rosary will be held at 12:00pm. Pursuant to her wishes, Etiennette will be cremated and a Memorial Mass will be held in late January (details TBA).

Donations can be made to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, 355 Lexington Ave, 15th Fl, New York, NY, 55104-2897 or to the Humane Society of the U.S., 1255 23rd St NW, Suite 450, Washington DC, 20037
