Ysedro Raymond Bicandi (Ray) age 75 of Homedale passed away on October 1st 2023.

Ray was born on June 10th 1948 to Eloise and Ysedro Bicandi in Nampa, Idaho. After graduating Homedale high school in 1966 Ray moved to Ridgefield, WA to help run horses at Portland Meadows with his father. Ray was drafted into military service early in 1968 and deployed to Vietnam where he served in the army with the 1 st Bde, 25th Infantry division. He received multiple service metals, including the 3 bronze stars, one for heroic actions while under live combat conditions, as well as a purple heart for injuries suffered by enemy fire.

After being honorably discharged from military service as a Staff Sergeant in early 1970, Ray returned home to again work with his father running horses at Portland meadows while attending Clark community college where he would earn his associates degree. During this time he met and married Candice Allen and they soon moved to Pullman, Washington where Ray attended WSU and would receive his Bachelors in Animal Science. They had their first child, Jennifer Lee in January of 1972.

In 1975 Ray and his family relocated back to his roots in Idaho where he accepted a position with PCA as an agricultural loan officer. In 1977 Ray and Candice purchased a small farm in Homedale and in August of that year welcomed their second child, Tomas Ysedro. Soon followed by their 3rd child, Antonio Louis, in October of 1978. Not long after, in 1979, Ray and his family purchased an additional 107 acres a few miles down the road to expand the farm and run additional cattle. In 1987 Ray and Candice parted ways but remained good friends through the rest of his years. So much so that she was by his side daily through his final months fighting illness.

In 1992 Ray married Amy Gepner and in February of 1994 they welcomed Ray’s 4th child Ramona Elece. Together Ray and Amy built a house on the second property. After 15 years Ray and Amy parted ways and Ray remained on the farm.

In addition to running a farm and cattle while being a full time loan officer, Ray was active in the community. He was proud of his Basque heritage and was an active member in the Caldwell Euzkaldunak Basque Charities for over 20 years. He was a member of the Elks and donated to many organizations. Always busy, Ray managed to take time to help others when he saw someone in need.

Ray retired from Zions bank as a senior credit loan officer and continued to live on the farm in Homedale until his death where he loved to ride horses, spend time with his friends and family and work around the farm.

Ray is preceded by his mother Eloise Dexter and step father Dewey Dexter and father Yesdro Bicandi and step mother Gayanne Bicandi.

Ray is survived by his children- Jennifer (Kent) Miller, Tomas (Alison) Bicandi, Antonio (Christina) Bicandi, Ramona (Brice) Mosekian. His grandchildren- Marcus Miller, Kylee Miller, Lucas Bicandi, Colton Bicandi, Grace Bicandi and Sofia Mosekian. His siblingsMitch (Janet) Bicandi, Deanne (Bill) Herrmann, Shelley (Larry) Fox, Lisa (Mike) Allen and Shannon (Glaucos) Osborne. Ray also leaves behind his last remaining aunt Josie Johnson, multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and girlfriend of many years Ginny Ponte.

Service will be held at Flahiff’s Funeral Chapel in Homedale at 27 E. Owyhee Ave, Homedale, ID 83628 on Saturday, October 14th , at 10:00 am followed by a lunch and memorial at the Homedale Basque center (Txoko Ona) at 333 S. Main St, Homedale ID 83628.
