(publicado en Idaho Press Tribune, Legacy.com el 19-20 de abril de 2025)

Mary Cortabitarte passed away on March 22, 2025, in Litchfield Park, Arizona. Mary, affectionately known as Mer, would have celebrated her 100th birthday in July.

She was born July 15, 1925, daughter of Joe and Inez Zatica, in Jordan Valley, Oregon. She graduated from Jordan Valley High School. She married Ike Cortabitarte in 1945, prior to relocating to Marsing, Idaho where they lived until moving to Arizona in their later years.

Mer worked for the local ASCS office administering land use programs for local farmers until her retirement in 1981.

Mer enjoyed sports in general, but especially her beloved New York Yankees. She knew every Yankee player's batting average and if you happened to stop by the house and the Yankees were on the radio or TV she wouldn't answer the door.

But her real passion was her family, and she was an inspiration to her two children, Rosemary and Tom. She was a great role model and devoted mother.

She was an active member of St Hubert's Catholic church in Homedale for many years and her faith was a big part of her life.

Later in her life she would reminisce about her early life in Jordan Valley and the years in Marsing. She truly enjoyed the many friendships she nurtured over the years and often reflected just how much those relationships shaped her life. She loved bowling and playing bridge with her group of friends including sister Julie.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ike, brothers Paul and Jess and Jim, and sisters Julie and Sola. She is survived by her daughter Rosemary Saul (Glenn), son Tom Cortabitarte (Becky), daughter-in-law Denni Cortabitarte; grandchildren Tom Schumacher, Tony Cortabitarte, Angela Grant (Phil); and great-grandchildren Shelby and Sophia Schumacher, Miranda and Jackson Cortabitarte, and Skylar and Shiloh Grant.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Txoko Ona Basque Center on May 3 at noon in Homedale, ID. Her private family graveside service will be held in Jordan Valley, OR.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Txoko Ona Basque Center or Society of St. Vincent de Paul (Our Lady of the Valley Conference).

Funeral Services have been entrusted to Camino Del Sol Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center, Sun City West, AZ.
