Elko, Nevada, 1928 - Elko, Nevada, 2015

(obituary published by the Elko Daily)

Martin Hachquet Jr. passed away on June 15, 2015 at the age of 87.

Martin was born at the Elko General Hospital to Martin and Anna Hachquet on May 28, 1928. He was their only child and learned the sheep business at an early age. Martin spent most of his youth helping his father’s sheep operations, often providing transportation of supplies to the sheep camps. He excelled at basketball and track in high school. After a few years in the Army, Martin returned to assist with the family sheep operation. After selling the sheep business, the family operated the Deluxe Dry cleaners. He later worked at the H & H market, Glenn Distributing, and the Elko School District.

Martin had a quick sense of humor, and was friends with everyone that he met. A lifelong resident of Elko, Martin truly appreciated the culture and environment of Northeast Nevada. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. After several years working with sheep, Martin knew every mountain, creek, and spring between Eureka and Gold Creek.

Martin was an original member of the Elko Basque Club. He enjoyed the picnics, dances and dinners sponsored by the club. He could be seen taking tickets at the entry of the Basque games for several years. His line was always the slowest because he had to talk to everyone entering the games.

Martin is survived by son Mike (Connie) Hachquet of Pendleton, Oregon, daughter Karen Labarry of Reno, Nevada, and Debbie Hartwig, Spring Creek, Nevada, grandchildren Shaun (Lisa) Hachquet, Jake Hachquet, Maureen Torres, Adrian Labarry, Rayna (Luke) Baca, Kari (Bryan) Barker, Micah (Ryan) Miller, and eight great grandchildren.

A rosary and memorial service for Martin will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 27 at Burns Funeral Home in Elko, Nevada. Viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
