04/10/2017 - Reno, Nevada, EEUU

October 20, 1933 - October 4, 2017

Albertine Catherine Prina was born on October 20, 1933 in Banca, France to Jean and Grace (Etchegaray) Sallaberry. She passed unexpectedly at home on October 4, 2017. Shortly after WWII at the age of 13, she immigrated to the United States with her mother, brother Gracian, sisters Mary Jean and Veronica to reunite with her Father in Eureka, Nevada.

She graduated from Eureka High School, where she excelled in academics and athletics and made many lifelong friends. She then moved to Reno and attended Reno Business College.

Albertine married Al Prina, the love of her life on April 10, 1955. They moved to Reno and built their lifelong home in 1956. This union produced Marcelle (Joel) Gipson, Debbie (Pat) Zunini, Gino (Kim) Prina and Theresa (Mike) Tonner. She was blessed with eight grandchildren, Kristie, Brian, Gina, Jamie, Mandy, Nick, Jack and Alex. As the family grew with their significant others she loved each one as her own.

Albertine's career began at Stead Air Force Base. Then she spent many years loving and raising her children. She returned to the work force at Walton's Funeral Home and continued her career in accounting for WCSD.

After retirement she took the trip of her life with Al and several family members. They traveled to Northern Italy to visit Al's family and then on to Albertine's hometown in the French Basque Country. In 2015 she returned to France with her four children and granddaughter Kristie. She delighted in showing her children her family home and introducing them to her French cousins. Her life revolved around her family. Mom embodied love and generosity; she was the perfect balance of strength, elegance and grace. She was intuitive and perceptive, always knowing and understanding us without words or judgment. She was an amazing cook and gardener. Her beautiful spirit will be greatly missed by all. Heaven got the most loving soul. Albertine was preceded in death by her husband Al, siblings, parents and numerous other relatives. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for Thursday, October 12, 2017. It will begin with a Rosary at 9:30 A.M., followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral, 310 W. 2nd Street, Reno. In Lieu of flowers the family asks for your donations to St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
