The University of Birmingham’s Basque, Catalan and Galician Film Festival begins tomorrow

As part of the festival that begins tomorrow at the University of Birmingham, the Basque film '80 egunean' (In 80 days) will be shown on May 19th. Jon Garaño, one of the directors of this Basque film, will be at the showing and will participate in a symposium on the movie. The festival was organized by the English university with the collaboration of the Etxepare Institute, la Xunta de Galicia and the Ramon Llull Institute of Catalonia.

Birmingham, UK.  The Midlands Art Center of Birmingham will be the site of tomorrow’s Basque, Catalan and Galician film festival, organized by the University of Birmingham, the Etxepare Institute, the Ramon Llull Institute and the Xunta de Galicia.  A course on Basque language and culture, supported by the Etxepare Institute, has been taught at the university since the beginning of the semester.

The festival opens tomorrow with the showing of the Catalan film Elisa K by Judith Colell and Jordi Cadena.  Cadena will be at the showing and will participate in the symposium that follows.  On May 19th 80 egunean will be shown, directed by Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga.  Garaño will present the film in person and will be available to viewers to talk, and or debate about it afterwards.  Finally, on May 26th, it will be Crebinsky’s turn, the Galician film directed by Enrique Otero.  Otero will also participate in a symposium following the movie.

All movies will be shown in their original versions with English subtitles.  The event is open and free to the public.  More information is available on the blog of the Center for Basque, Catalan and Galician Studies at the University of Birmingham.
