Neuquen, Argentina. After an impasse forced by the pandemic, the “Entre Vascos” (Between Basques) radio program returned to the air this March. The proposal that began in 2019, with the Comahueko Euskal Etxea can today, more than ever, be described as the “Basque-Neuquen” since Sebastian Inzunza drives from Neuquen and Rafa Molina, the project’s alma mater participates from Durango, Bizkaia.  The participation of collaborators is also a reflection of this situation “on two coasts,” and while some do it live from Argentina, others do it, due to the time difference, recorded from the Basque Country.

Molina told EuskalKultura.eus that the program will include various novelties this year including providing a space for the smaller clubs in the Diaspora, “Surpassing Argentinean borders, giving space to those who find it more difficult to make their voice heard,” he says.

Molina thinks that besides interviews with the Basque clubs, there will also be dialogues with referents from the world of politics, culture, and sports and also ten minutes of the program will be in Basque thanks to the Euskaltzaleak Euskaltegi in Buenos Aires.

“We have many ideas and will continue to concretize these in coming programs,” the commentator said who also anticipates the presence of the Trujillo Basque Club president, Leonel Berrocal, and Jasone Agirre, Parliamentarian from Bizkaia representing EH Bildu in the Basque Parliament.

“Entre Vascos,” air son Mondays from 9-11pm (Argentina time) here www.radiomegafon.com.ar.

Once the programs air, they are made available here.

Current Situation of Radio Programs with Basque Content in Argentina

Over twenty years, we have continued to report on EuskalKultura.eus a large number of radio program in Argentina with Basque content.  For a time, the boom was related to “La hora de los Vascos,” (The Basque Hour) that “canned,” format produced by FEVA which reached Basque clubs to be broadcast on their respective local radio stations.

Unfortunately, the majority of these projects were not sustainable over time.  Programs like the veteran “Presencia Vasca” (Basque Presence) that airs weekly from Parana with Federico Borras Alcain, and the aforementioned program in its second year, are the exception hopefully temporarily.

The pandemic put the brakes on all activities, it also put the brakes on programs like “Euskal Sustraiak – Basque Roots,” in La Plata,, “Palabra de Vasco” (The Basque Word), in Rosario and “Voices de una Tierra noble,” (Voices from a Noble Land) also connected to the Comahueko Euskal Etxea in Neuquen in 2020.  In a conversation with its director, he told us that they are in talks to return to the air as soon as the conditions allow.
