Boise, Idaho. The Basque community in Idaho’s capital celebrates its Basque festival annually commemorating the celebration of San Inazio as it will again this year with a complete program that officially begins today, although there were various pilota matches played at the Anduiza fronton in the Basque Block yesterday.  The program includes musical, gastronomic, and religious events as well as public dances in the streets much like festivals in the Basque Country.

The religious portion will take place on Saturday with mass celebrated at St. Marks Catholic Church with a procession that includes the local Oñati dancers carrying the image of the patron saint of the festivities through the streets of Boise.

Those taking advantage of the festival will also have the opportunity to visit the Basque Museum situated also on the Basque Block and visit the exhibit on Basque women that is currently on display according to this podcast with Patty Miller.

Next year, the San Inazio Festival will become Jaialdi celebrated every five years.  If you are thinking about attending, we recommend that you make reservations now since they are anticipating record attendance of friends from the US, Euskal Herria and the rest of the Diaspora. Don’t wait to make your travel plans to Boise!
