Mendoza, Argentina. The Aberri Eguna celebration this year was especially moving for the Basque community in Mendoza since it included paying tribute to four members who had recently passed away and who had left their mark “so that Denak Bat can be what it is today.”  The tribute began with mass at the Church of Don Bosco and continued with lunch at the clubhouse.

As part of the recognition, authorities at the Euskal Etxea presented the honorees’ family members with commemorative plaques  “Nerea Garate was an unconditional collaborator; Vicente Lecea and Martin Gereño were collaborators and founding members; and Alicia Aguirre, what can we say…founding member, Basque teacher, reference and tireless motor for the club,” Lautaro Pincheira, Basque teacher said.

Besides experiencing this moving moment and sharing lunch prepared by Sebastian Arrieta, from Ahurti (Lapurdi), those present also shared an afternoon of music and Basque dancing.
