Pergamino, Argentina. The local Lagun Onak Basque club will celebrate its 69th birthday this Saturday, October 24th beginning at 11 am in a form that is now known as hybrid, meaning partly virtually and partly in person. In this way, the Euskal Etxea will upload contents to its social media in the morning and in the evening, there will be a sale of typical food at the clubhouse.
At the beginning of the virtual celebration club president, Martha Arrillaga, and the dance director, Andrea Sabas will present a program that will follow them: a video on the beginning of the Basque club and its current activities; current videos of the dance group Goizeko Izarra, on the patio of Flags of the Monument to the Immigrant; Aurresku and Arin Arin dances; a photographic tour of the 69 years of the institution. There will also be virtual greetings from members and friends.
The day will conclude with Lagun Onak holding one of its favorite activities: a group of its sukaldaris (cooks) will once again light the club’s stoves and this time prepare chicken in saltsa. Solidarity in times of pandemic
Among the activities that it can and wants to continue to carry out, even during a pandemic, the Lagun Onak Club remains firmly committed to the soup kitchen “Help us Grow.” Every month the sukaladaris at the Euskal Etxea prepare several dozen meats for the children in the neediest sectors.
With a population just under 100,000 inhabitants, Pergamino, as the rest of the province of Buenos Aires, finds itself in a time where the contaminations multiply every day, having registered 120 new cases in the last 72 hours.
