Neuquén, Argentina. The project aimed to convert a street into an “open-air museum,” and included the support of the directorate of Provincial Culture and the city, the Council on the Arts and Interculturality, the Deliberative Council of Gran Neuquen, and local, regional and international artists.  Managed by the local Baskos de la Confluencia Basque Club the artist from Gasteiz, Irantzu Lekue participated on the project and left her mark on the local street.

The mural, on the front of the Euskal Etxea, included images of a mother and daughter, the landscape of San Martin de los Andes, and as requested by neighbors, the phrase, “I want you free, truly free,” by Silvio Rodriguez in Spanish and Basque.  “Both in the Basque Country and in Argentina she is working on the deconstruction and construction of a new social mandate, feminism, and the empowerment of women, and that’s what the mural is about,” Pablo Aguirre explained to EuskalKultura.eus.

“One of our goals as a Basque club is to support the Basque culture, generate links and build bridges that allow us to exchange actions in conjunction with the community, which we have done during these past few days thanks to Irantzu’s visit,” the club's spokesperson added.

Remember that the day before the Basque artists painted two murals; one on the Godoy Cruz School as well as on the front of the Denak Bat Basque Club in Mendoza.  More information here.
