Baiona, Lapurdi. “Gaucho Basko,” is a documentary that tells the story of photographer Kepa Etchandy from Baiona “in the footsteps of Basques in Argentina.”  It can be seen on Monday, October 26th at 11:25pm (continental European time) on France 3 Nouvelle Aquitaine. This version, in French can be seen all month long on the aforementioned channel's website.  It will be also available on Kanaldude later on with the documentary being shown in March 2021, as Joana Duhalde from this Iparralde TV channel told EuskalKultura.eus

Directed by Carlos Portella Nunes, a Brazilian filmmaker and surfer based in Angelu-Anglet (Lapurdi), “Gaucho Basko” was presented on September 30th at the Latin American Film Festival in Biarritz, where it was very well received.  As Etchandy himself told this bulletin, it debuted to a full house with 500 attending.

In the documentary, Etchandy recuperates a part of his family history, of those who in the beginning of the 20th century immigrated to Argentina.  The audiovisual includes the participation of references of the local Basque community as well as a selection of cultural costumes and landscapes that are typical of the austral country.
