Zornotza, Bizkaia. Thanks to the agreement signed by the Etxepare Basque Institute, and the Aurten Bai Foundation, students from Chile Juan Idrovo, Catalina Bustos, Victoria Castro, Denisse Valenzuela and Gonzalo Salazar are currently in a three-week stay at the Zornotza Barnetegi.  The youth have previously done a semester of Basque language courses either at the Pontifical Catholic University or the University of Chile within the framework of the lectureships supported by Etxepare and are now hoping to improve their level of Basque language and immerse themselves in the culture of the Basque Country.

The Etxepare Basque Institute explains that the Foundation Aurten Bai signs an agreement with them annually to promote Euskera abroad, and that it was through that agreement that they manage and support online courses, or distance learning at Barnetegis for foreign students.

The youth from Chile are really enjoying their experience, not just what they are learning in the classroom, but also the extracurricular activities that the Barnetegi provides.  “In my case, I always wanted to visit the Basque Country because my ancestors were from here,” Gonzalo Salazar explained to EuskalKultura.eus. “In South America we don’t have the possibility to delve into Euskera and so that is why this experience is so important,” he affirms.
