Elko, Nevada, USA. On January 24th, Fermin Alzugaray passed away at the Elko Hospital at the age of 84, after battling various types of cancer. Originally from Lesaka, his friends have organized a crowdfunding campaign, GoFund, in hopes of raising money to help with his medical expenses, family travel as well as funeral costs. The goal is to raise $3,000, and when this article was published, they had reached $1,492.00 donated by 16 different donors, mostly anonymously.
Fermin Alzugaray was very well known among the Basques in Elko and surrounding area. Before coming to the United States, he worked in Spain and France, as well as in Argentina until he finally came to the US. He was the father of two and grandfather to three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be on Monday, February 3rd at the parish of Saint Joseph in Elko at 11am, with a rosary. Interment will be at the Elko Cemetery followed by a celebration of life at the Elko Euskal Etxea. GB.
