Events this week in Indiana about Euskera, bertsolaritza, poetry and indigenous languages with various Basque experts

West Lafayette, IN, USA. Lectures and presentations will take place at the University of Purdue in Indiana, as part of the international conference, "Year of Indigenous Languages 2019: Perspectives.” The conference organized as part of this year of indigenous language enjoys the support of the Etxepare Basque Institute and on October 31st will gather the following experts: Ane Ortega, Arkaitz Zarraga, and Andoni Barreña who will give a talk entitled, “Creating Networks and Partnerships for Indigenous Language Revitalization: The Nasa-Basque Experience.”

On November 1st, translator, Amaia Gabantxo will talk about translating Basque poetry, “From the Square to the Page, and onto the Other Page: The Order of Things in Basque Poetry in Translation.”

On the same day, anthropologist and professor, Jone Miren Hernandez Garcia will give a talk on the process of the revitalization of Euskera and bertsolaritza entitled, “Bertso baten bila/Looking for a Bertso.”

The International Year of Indigenous Languages 2019: Perspectives,” conference aims to extol indigenous communities and languages and promote collaboration through different voices.  It will mainly focus on the achievements of communities with indigenous languages; collaborations with communities; educational policies for revitalization and language maintenance; the situation of indigenous languages in the 21st century; indigenous voices in popular culture (social networks, fiction, poetry, movies or hip hop); and indigenous languages and linguistic diversity.
