Donostia-San Sebastián. Basque literature is available in three new titles translated into other languages.  These are Atertu arte itxaron by Katixa Agirre that can now be read in Danish, Soinuolearen semea by Bernardo Atxaga now available in Albanian, and the collection of stories Bihotz Handiegia by Eider Rodriguez that readers of Catalan can now enjoy.  The three translation received support from the Etxpare Basque Institute.

Translator, Ane-Grethe was in charge of translating the book Atertu arte itxaron by Katixa Agirre. The novel tells the story of a couple’s trip through Euskal Herria, in a narration similar to a road movie. The work won the Academia Prize the year it was published and has already been translated into Spanish.  It was published in Danish by Aurora Boreal Publishers.

Pau Joan Hernandez was in charge of the Catalan version of the collection of stories by Eider Rodriguez, published by Barcelona publisher, Periscopi.  The work was originally published in 2017, and includes six stories, the first and the longest being entitled, Bihotz Handiegia. The collection was also translated into Spanish.

Finally, the Son of the Accordionist has already been translated into several languages and can be read in English, Swedish, Bulgarian, French, Danish, Italian, German, Russian and Galician, among other languages. Now Albanian can be added to the list, work conducted by Bashkim Shehu.  Published in 2003, the novel tells the adventures of friends, Joseba and David, from 1930s to the 21st century, in the conflict in Euskal Herria.

Fifteen projects were translated with grants in 2018 from the Etxepare Basque Institute.  Some others published prior to the three aforementioned works, and by December 31, 2019 the remaining works will be done.
