San Miguel, Argentina. The Askatasunaren Bidea Group in San Miguel, in the province of Buenos Aires, celebrated its 10th anniversary on June 21st.  The gathering took place at the hall at the Domingo F. Sarmiento Public Library where the club holds its events, decorated for the occasion with the flag of Navarre and the Ikurriña, oak leaves “as symbols of Basque rights and liberties,” and the eguzkilore “protector of our etxea (house).”

“A decade has passed since we took up the commitment to spread the Basque culture in San Miguel, place chosen by Basque immigrants who arrived here at the end of the 19th century.  Continuing this task is the goal that we propose and towards which we work everyday,” directors at Askatasunare Bidea expressed, while renewing their commitment. “If we were driven in those days by excitement, today we are joined by the emotion of seeing the journey of the initial project.”

A large group of members and friends attended the event and shared a toast with the group including Jorgelina Mansilla, Library Director, and Carlos Gabilondo, director of the Traveling Basque Film project.  More photos of the festivities on the group’s blog
