Mexico City, Mexico. A month ago the gastronomic project “Amalur” began in Mexico City and Oaxaca that offers typical Basque dishes, specifically desserts and marmalades made with organic local products, all available for home delivery “so that people can stay home and respect the shelter in place.” Behind the project is young Chef from Ziburu (Lapurdi) Mikel Larregi who trained in Donostia.

Mikel explained to EuskalKultura.eus that, in this context of the health crisis, but also economic crisis, he had to adapt to his new circumstances: “I came to Mexico to work five years ago and worked in a restaurant; later the restaurant where I worked was closed, so I got the idea to start “Amalur,” whose name links me to the Basque Country, meaning mother land.”

Mikel is a regular at the Mexico Euskal Etxea where among other activities, he plays pelota.  Zorionak Mikel eta onena opa dizugu zure proiektuan! Congratulations Mikel and we wish you all the best with your project.
