Llavallol, Argentina. The school at the Euskal Echea Cultural and Charitable Association, celebrated its traditional “Euskal Jaia” or Basque Festival at their facilities in Llavallol. Gathering students and their families, along with the staff, alumni and friends to enjoy a sunny day with Basque dance and sports exhibitions.

After the inaugural parade presided by the ceremonial standard bearers, and after singing the Argentine National Anthem and “Gernikako Arbola,” an Aurresku was performed in honor of the older people at the Nursing Home that is part of the Euskal Echea complex, that opened the celebration.  As part of the event, students in second grade danced “Zinta Dantza,” and those in first grade created a colorful rainbow, and rhythmic gymnastics was also included.

The surprise for many came at the conclusion with the “Korrika Txiki,” a representation of the race in favor of Euskera that is celebrated every two years in Euskal Herria.  To give life to the Korrika, the students invited the audience to use their imagination to transport themselves to the Basque Country, for a visit of some of their most significant festivals and dances.  The route included modern and traditional dance, as well as the mythical Tamborrada from Donostia that was also present in Llavallol.  The festivities concluded with a fandango and biribilketa (dances) that included parents and friends.

Video of the event. Is it Donostia? Gernika? Donibane Garazi? Amurrio? Lesaka? No, this is Llavallol in the province of Buenos Aires.
