Mikel Zalbide, linguist and member of Euskaltzaindia (Royal Academy of the Basque Language), will give a talk at the University of Leipzig about the 100th anniversary of Euskaltzaindia. The event will take place at 17:15 in the Hörsaal room 15 at the university. Zalbide will analyze the creation, evolution and milestones of Euskaltzaindia from a sociolinguistic perspective.
The conference, entitled ‘Die Königliche Akademie der Baskischen Sprache Euskaltzaindia: ein Dutzend sprachsoziologische Bemerkungen’, is one of the many events organized by the Basque Language and Culture readership at the University of Leipzig to draw attention to Euskaltzaindia’s hundred-year history. Among other activities, more than 40 Wikipedia articles on Euskera and Euskaltzandia, including an article about Mikel Zalbide himself, will be translated into German, in collaboration with Basque language and culture reader at the universities of Berlin, Constanza and Frankfurt.
